Coronavirus Prayer Guide

It is moments such as these that create an opportunity for the gospel in the lives of those affected. There has never been a better time to cover our communities in prayer as we minister to their needs. This prayer guide has been assembled as a resource to promote agreement in prayer among local churches. Please distribute freely!

Prayer for America

Pray for physical and social healing in America. Pray that the spread of COVID-19 would be stopped and that precautionary actions would be effective. Pray that everyone affected would look to God in this time of need.

28 “If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemies besiege them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, 29 whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing his own affliction and his own sorrow and stretching out his hands toward this house, 30 then hear from heaven your dwelling place and forgive and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways, for you, you only, know the hearts of the children of mankind, 31 that they may fear you and walk in your ways all the days that they live in the land that you gave to our fathers. – 2 Chronicles 6:28-31

Prayer for City, State, and National Leaders

Pray that our leaders would have the wisdom and courage to make the best decisions. Pray that they would enact wise policies in the best interest of the families they serve. Pray for the protection of their health and of their families.

9 We have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy. – Colossians 1:9-11

1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 3:17 The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. – James 1:5, 3:17

1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

Prayer for the Sick

Pray for those who have been infected by COVID-19 and their families. Pray for their speedy recovery, successful treatment, and for the quick production of effective therapies and medicines. Pray especially for those in critical condition and on ventilator machines.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. – Psalm 103:1-5

21 In that hour he healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he bestowed sight. – Luke 7:21

23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. – Matthew 4:23-24

17 He took our illnesses and bore our diseases. – Matthew 8:17

Prayer for Medical Professionals

Pray for the protection of our medical professionals and their families. Pray against the spread of fear and panic and for the projection of facts and wisdom. Pray for the provision of the needed staff and equipment to care for their patients.

Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge – 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. – Psalm 91:9-11

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.  – 2 Timothy 1:6-7

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble. May the name of the God of Jacob protect you. – Psalm 20:1

10 In your goodness, O God, you provide for the needy. – Psalm 68:10

18 You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. – Deuteronomy 8:18

10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. – 2 Corinthians 9:10-11

17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. – 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Prayer for the Media

Pray that the media would not be driven by fear or panic and that they would report with accuracy and truth. Pray that the media would provide nonpartisan information for families to make well-informed decisions for their wellbeing. Pray for the protection of reporters and crew from possible exposure as they work to provide our families with valuable information.

4 In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and humility and righteousness; let your right hand show us your awesome deeds. – Psalm 45:4

12 The Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard. – Isaiah 52:12

Prayer for Redemption

Pray that those affected would find hope in Jesus and that what was meant for evil would be turned for good. Pray that hearts would become receptive to the gospel to not only be restored in this present crisis but for eternity. Pray that Jesus would be lifted up to draw all people to himself.

1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you. – 2 Thessalonians 3:1

29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus. – Acts 4:29-30

1 Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence —2 as when fire kindles brushwood and the fire causes water to boil — to make your name known to your adversaries, and that the nations might tremble at your presence! 3 When you did awesome things that we did not look for, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence. 4 From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him. – Isaiah 64:1-4

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. – 1 Peter 1:3-4
