“La Petite Roche” Serve Day Is Coming
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16.
Central Arkansas churches have had a history of working together to display the light of Christ through past events such as “Tithe a Day”, Sharefest, CityFest, and “One Church”. We have another such opportunity to let our light shine on Saturday April 2 and Saturday April 9th
This morning of volunteer service to bless our community will help kick off Central Arkansas’ La Petite Roche Tricentennial. It’s the same month 300 years ago that French explorer Jean-Baptiste Benard de La Harpe and his crew first came upon “la petite roche” or “the little rock” that gave this region its name. The week will continue with a number of exciting, fascinating, and educational offerings with an April 9 dedication event at Sturgis Plaza at La Petite Roche, marking this historic anniversary.
Recent studies by the Barna Group and others have shown that one of the ways churches can make the gospel more beautiful and believable is by working together. Uniting as churches and with other community leaders and organizations in this special anniversary is not only a practical way to “seek the welfare of our city” (Jeremiah 29:7), it offers a unique opportunity to show and share the love of Christ. Each church is encouraged to participate in a project that best fits in their congregation’s mission and plans. As you prayerfully consider how your church can “serve the Rock”, we want to suggest three excellent possibilities,
- Church/School Projects through the Vital Families in Schools Initiative. Contact Anthony Hampton, [email protected]
- Clean up projects at La Petite Roche Plaza in Riverfront Park. Contact James Short, [email protected]
- Participate in the One Bread – One Body Food Drive replenishing food pantries and serving Central Arkanas children and families facing hunger. Contact Shannon Everett, [email protected]
