Leaving a Legacy of Faith

My wife Angie and I are blessed with four grandchildren, ranging in age from one to fifteen years old. Like so many grandparents, we delight in every opportunity to spend time with them. Whether it’s celebrating birthdays, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, attending choir and band performances, or enjoying a fun evening of babysitting while mom and dad have a date night, we treasure making memories together.

But over the past several years, God has placed an even greater desire on our hearts. Looking at the world today’s children and teenagers are growing up in, we recognize the unique challenges this generation faces. We are deeply committed to supporting and partnering with our adult children as they raise their families. More than anything, we want to be a trusted voice, an encouraging presence, and a spiritual influence in the lives of our grandchildren.

We realized that simply showing up for events—while important—wasn’t enough. We wanted to be intentional about using every opportunity to point our grandchildren toward Christ and leave a legacy of faith that will last for generations.

Intentional Grandparenting

That desire led us to launch a new ministry at The Summit Church in North Little Rock called Intentional Grandparenting. With the encouragement and support of church leadership, we created this ministry to equip grandparents to embrace the incredible calling God has given them.

A core component of the ministry is a six-week class called Grandparenting Matters produced by Legacy Coalition. When the first class launched in June, Angie and I weren’t sure whether anyone else shared the same passion. We were amazed when 31 grandparents—representing 112 grandchildren—signed up for the class.

Together, we discovered both a biblical vision and practical ways to become more intentional about investing spiritually in the next generation. The class reminded everyone that while grandparents can’t make decisions for their grandchildren, they can faithfully pray, love, encourage, model authentic faith, and create moments that point young hearts toward Jesus.

More Opportunities Ahead

For Angie and me, the motivation is simple: we desire more than anything to one day worship in heaven alongside our children and grandchildren. That eternal perspective fuels everything we hope to accomplish through this ministry.

This journey has only just begun. Plans are already underway to provide ongoing opportunities for grandparents at The Summit Church and throughout Central Arkansas to be encouraged, equipped, and connected. 

The ministry will also celebrate grandparents at our church on National Grandparents Day, September 13, and we’re excited to join Christ Community Church in West Little Rock for the one-day Legacy Grandparenting Summit on Saturday, October 3. This event is open to everyone. Embracing the Call

The heart of this ministry is Deuteronomy 4:9

Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.

Angie and I believe this isn’t simply a suggestion. It’s a calling. 

Our prayer is that more grandparents will embrace the incredible opportunity God has given them to intentionally pass on a legacy of faith—one conversation, one relationship, and one generation at a time.

Steve Campbell is an independent Medicare sales agent with PrimeCare Insurance Advisors, helping Medicare beneficiaries choose the prescription drug and supplemental plans that best serve their needs. Steve serves on the Men’s Ministry Leadership Team at The Summit Church in North Little Rock, where he also participates in Men’s Bible Study. For the past six years, he has facilitated a weekly L3 (Learn, Live, Lead) men’s group where marketplace leaders read and discuss leadership books through a faith filter. He also leads annual Leadership Foxholes — three-day retreats for pastors and marketplace leaders focused on rest, community, reflection, and equipping. Steve serves on the Board of Directors of ICON Ministries, a discipleship organization in Chicago. Steve and his wife Angie, his high school sweetheart of 37 years, are both Clemson graduates and have three adult children and four grandchildren. Outside of work and ministry, Steve coaches pickleball at Pickleball Kingdom in Little Rock and loves spending time on the water.
